Free email account at CovChap for any CC community members who want one. 

This is really the main motivation for hosting this domain. We're doing this for two reasons:

  • Why not? It's likely to be a better account for you than that spam/porn AOL, Hotmail, or MSN account you have. Porn and spam are real problems on the web, and anything that help eliminate participation in (or support of) Yahoo, Hotmail, or other services where spam/porn are tolerated (or even predominate!) is a good thing. Right??

  • We're hosting this site on servers that have software tools for this already installed for other paying clients. So, it's not much overhead - and any overhead costs are donated by your webmasters.

how do I get a covchap.com account?

Send an email right now to bud@CovChap.com. I'll set up your account. You can have any name you want, as long as it's not taken. Please don't pick account names that are coarse or in poor taste. 

You'll have your own login and password. You can change the password at any time. 

I promise total security. (After all, the main reason we're doing this is to help you have an email account that minimizes distractions like spam and porn.) No one will get a list of accounts to use to market to you. I won't know your password; all I can do is reset it for you if you forget it. Your emails will remain entirely secret, even to administrators. I know a lot about security - the servers are RAID hot-swappable and I take good care of 'em. They are off site - in Lee's Summit, Mo and Texas.

how do I use the account?

I'll send you simple instructions that tell how to set you Outlook or other email software to check your mailbox. 

I've also set up a convenient and simple method for checking/sending your account mail right from any web browser. Just point your browser to http://www.CovChap.com:8383 and LogIn with your full address (example: moses@covchap.com) and your password. Wah-Lah!! You are checkin' your mail!!

There are no limits on account or file size. Hey - memory is cheap!!

I already use another account; why should I get one at CovChap?

Well, I use lots of email addresses - some for technical, some for my music, some for web site logins (so that the email addresses I really like never receive spam email). My Outlook and Nancy's Eudora software checks a dozen accounts every time I say (check mail" - including my bud@CovChap.com account. So, go ahead. Get another account. 

how to set up your outlook or other email client

Here's how to set up the software on your PC to check your CovChap mail box. Remember: your software can check multiple boxes, and that is an advantage!!

In the menu bar at the top of Microsoft Outlook (for example), select:

  • Tools,
  • Accounts,
  • Add,
  • Mail,
  • (choose a name),
  • (insert email address).
  • When the "POP3" page of the wizard arrives, your incoming (POP3) & outgoing (SMTP) are simply covchap.com.

    Due to new attack techniques by unscrupulous spammers, the following additional step is sometimes required by ISPs. Try it if you have trouble - it won't hurt:

    • (1) Open your Outlook
    • (2) Tools
    • (3) Accounts
    • (4) select the service (the name of your domain)
    • (5) Properties
    • (6) Servers
    • (7) Outgoing Mail Server
    • (8) select the "My server requires authentication" box.

    More troubleshooting: make sure the return address is correct (and complete) under personal identification - it should say (for example) moses@covchap.com and not moses@covchap. That error would cause havoc when you try to "Reply".
